Korea Tourism Organization, January 2025 Korea Tourism Statistics Announced
The number of Korean tourists traveling abroad in January was 2,972,916, up 7.3% from the same month last year (2,770,866), and the number of Korean tourists traveling abroad in January was 2.97 million, up 2.1% from the same month in 2019.
Korean travelers appear to value sustainability
More Korean travelers are motivated by the appeal of authentic experiences and positive contributions to local communities, according to a survey. Nearly a quarter of travelers (23%) prioritize authentic tourism, while 20% are interested in supporting local economies when traveling.
In addition, Korean travelers choose to travel based on their personal values and beliefs, with 22% citing this as the main motivation for sustainable travel. This trend shows that travelers are pursuing a broader concept of travel that has meaning or positive influence beyond simple pleasure.
The survey also found that more than a quarter (26%) of Korean travelers seek ways to reduce their environmental impact by choosing to travel off-season to avoid crowds. In addition, 16% of Korean travelers try to reduce waste by bringing reusable travel items such as water bottles or shopping bags.
